Your ads optimise for form fills. Your business runs on quotations.

In a months-long industrial sale, the ad platform never learns which clicks became revenue, unless you tell it.

Google Ads can see that a form was submitted. It cannot see that the enquiry was unqualified, or that it turned into a quotation worth six figures, or that the sale closed five months later. So it optimises toward the only thing it can measure: the volume of form fills.

For a machinery manufacturer that is close to optimising for the wrong outcome. The keywords that produce the most enquiries are frequently the ones that produce the least revenue.

Close the loop with what you already know

The information that is missing from the ad platform already exists in the system that holds your quotations. The click identifier arrives with the visitor, gets stored with the enquiry, and stays attached while the lead is qualified, quoted and eventually won.

Uploading those milestones back as offline conversions gives the platform the truth: this click became a qualified enquiry, this one became a quotation worth this much, this one became a sale. Bidding then optimises toward revenue instead of activity.

Three events worth reporting

We usually configure the pipeline as three conversion actions that mirror how an industrial sale actually progresses. A qualified enquiry, which filters out the noise. A quotation issued, valued at the quoted amount. A closed sale, valued at what was realised.

The uploads run nightly and are idempotent, so a milestone is reported once and recorded as sent. Nothing is double counted, and the numbers in the ad account reconcile with the numbers in the pipeline.

What changes in practice

The first useful number is cost per quotation, not cost per click. It usually reorders the campaign list immediately: a campaign that looked expensive per enquiry turns out to be the one producing real quotations, and a cheap one turns out to be attracting people looking for something you do not sell.

None of this requires a bigger budget. It requires connecting two systems that were already recording the answer separately.
